Recipes for Oils and Incense

I would like to remind those of you who wild craft or grow your own plants for use such as those mentioned here, that you know what was sprayed on or near the plant or fed to the plants that you may use. If you use chemical fertilizers, chemical insecticides or chemical plant foods, your plants may not be safe for human consumption nor will any oils derived from these plants be food grade quality. Please consider that what you put into your plants, will eventually go into your body in one form or another. Also, please remember that if you wild craft, a good rule of thumb is 1/3 of the plant for the wild life (leave it), 1/3 of the plant for the plants re-growth (leave it) and 1/3 of the plant for you.. Also if you only see one plant of what you are looking for, do not pick or dig it up.

INCENSE

To Purify Your House

1/2 tsp. Dill Seed
3 tsp. Frankincense
2 tsp. Dragon's Blood
1 tsp. each of: Sandalwood & Wood Betony & Myrrh

Burn once a month. Burn this in a new home before moving in.

For Love

1/2 tsp. each of Basil & Bergamot
2 tsp. Sandalwood
a few drops Rose & Lavender oils

Burn to strengthen the love you have and to expand your ability to give and to receive love.

Protection

2 tsp. Frankincense
1 tsp. Copal
1 tsp. Dragons Blood.

Burn while visualizing for physical and psychic protection .

Protection

2 tsp. Frankincense
1 tsp. Dragon's Blood
1/2 tsp. Wood Betony

Burn for physical and psychic protection while visualizing.

For Sorrow

3 tsp. Frankincense
1 tsp. Mullein
1 tsp. Mums (Chrysanthemums)

Burn when distraught over the passing of a friend or loved one.

For Yule

2 Tbs.. Frankincense
1 Tbs.. Pine Needles or Resin
1 Tbs.. ea. of Cedar & Juniper Berries

Burn around Yule to cleanse the home and to attune with the forces of nature .

For Study

2 tsp. Gum Mastic
1 tsp. Rosemary

Smolder to strengthen the conscious mind for study, to develop concentration and to improve the memory.

Prophetic Dreams

2 tsp. Frankincense
1 tsp. Buchu

Burn before bed to produce revealing dreams and to ensure the conscious mind remembers them in the a.m.

Making Oils

You might be surprised by the volume of raw material it takes to make a natural oil. Remember that the essential oil is found in all parts of the plant and are just as useful. Extracting oils yourself is a relatively simple process. These are the recipes for those processes.

METHOD ONE Soaking leaves and petals in oil will extract the oils in those leaves and petals. Rose Oil

In a clean glass crock, pour in one half cup extra extra virgin olive oil. (this oil has little scent of its own and is natural). Add to the oil enough freshly picked rose petals to cover the oil. Let stand 24 hours. Strain oil through cheese cloth pressing all oil from rose petals. Discard rose pressed petals. Add fresh rose petals to this oil and repeat. Repeat the process until desired strength of scent. (scent varies with each type of rose used).
This method is suitable for food use only if the roses you use have not been sprayed or chemically treated for insects or diseases. Organically grown or naturally grown is best for food use.

METHOD TWO

In this method a consumable alcohol is used to extract the essential oils from the plant. Leaves and petals are used for Magical purposes. DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL!!!

In one cup of unflavored Vodka place enough petals, leaves, (& thorns) to cover the liquid. Let stand covered tightly for two weeks. Press the oil from the plant matter through a cheesecloth. The oil and alcohol product you have is now a natural rose perfume ready for use.

To make an essential oil follow the next steps. Freeze the liquid you now have for 24 hours. The oil will freeze, the alcohol will not.
Separate the frozen rose oil from the alcohol and store in tightly sealed container. Reserve the remaining alcohol for use again. More Recipes for Incense, Oils, Sachets and Potpourri from Various Books

Yule Incense from Making Magickal Incenses" by Keith Morgan 5 parts pine resin 4 parts mistletoe 3 parts spruce resin 5 ml musk oil per 8 oz. of dry mixture Yule is the Sabbat that is celebrated on or around the 21st of December, with dates differing from year to year, as being when the sun enters the sign of Capricorn, to mark the Winter Solstice. "Yule Potpourri "by Gerena Dunwich 1 cup oakmoss 2 cups dried mistletoe 1 cup dried poinsettia flowers 1 cup dried bayberries 1/2 cup rosemary 1/2 cop holly leaves and berries 3 crushed pine cones 20 drops musk oil 25 drops pine oil	Yule Oil from Wylundt's Book of Incense" 1- 6-8" branch fresh cut spruce 1- 6-8" branch fresh cut short needle pine 1- 6-8" branch fresh cut cedar 2 tb. frankincense resin, ground 1 tb. bayberry oil Cut branches into 1 inch pieces, put into a jar. Add remaining ingredients and cover with base oil and steep.

Container with Lid for Storage. Please be sure to use "all" thoroughly dried plants
PSYCHIC BATH: 3 PARTS LEMONGRASS or LEMON PEEL 2 PARTS THYME or ROSEMARY 2 PARTS ORANGE PEEL 1 PART CLOVE or MACE OR NUTMEG 1 PART CINNAMON Use before working with your psychic awareness. Or repeat this bath daily to become increasingly aware of psychic impulses. Also, for visualization.	DIVINATION BATH: 3 PARTS THYME or ROSEMARY* 2 PARTS YARROW or ROSE 2 PARTS ROSE or YARROW 1 PART PATCHILY or OAKMOSS 1 PART NUTMEG or MACE OR CINNAMON Relaxes the conscious mind and stimulates psychic awareness. (*recommended for those with trouble meditating.)
