CALENDULA

CARDAMOM (Elettario cardamomum) Parts Used: Seed 
The seeds are used for digestive aid. They have been found to have antispasmodic properties. The essential oil from almost ripe fruits is used in liqueurs and perfumes.

CAMPHOR (Cinnamomum camphora) Parts Used: Crystallized Extract and Leaf 
Both the leaf and crystallized extract are used for such conditions as asthma and bronchitis. The fumes are said to be useful in depression and exhaustion. It is used in salves to kill parasites and treat ringworm, scabies and itch. The oil helps with bruises, muscular, joint and arthritis pains.  

Warning: Synthetic camphor is extremely poisonous.

CAROB

CARAWAY (Carum carvi) Parts Used: Seed, Leaf, Root
The seeds can be eaten raw or sugar-coated after a spicy meal. They sweeten the breath, aid digestion and relieve flatulence. Chopped leaves are added to soups and salads, and the root is cooked as a vegetable. The seeds are antiseptic and a vermafuge. Caraway tea is said to relieve menstrual cramps. The powdered seeds are moistened to make a poultice for bruises and earaches.

CARNATION (Dianthus caryophyllus) Parts Used: Flower Petals 
The petals of any clove scented Carnation, with the bitter white heel removed, can be added to fruit dishes, sandwiches, soups and sauces. It can be used to make floral syrup, vinegar, liqueur or wine. It is used as a nerve tonic. 

CASCARA

CATNIP (Nepeta Catoria) Parts Used: Leaf 
The plant intoxicates cats, repels rats and flea beetles. The leaves are added to salads and flavor meat. The leaves and flowering tops, made into a tea, treat colds, calm upset stomachs, reduce fevers, and soothe headaches and scalp irritations.

CATS CLAW

CAYENNE (Capsicum Annum) Parts Used: Seeds 
Can be used as a gargle to treat sore throat. Reduces nausea from sea sickness when taken in capsulated form. It is said to relieve symptoms of rheumatism and inflammatory ailments when used in a salve.

CEDAR (Cedrus libani or Cedrus spp.) Parts Used: Twigs, Leaf 
The wood of the Atlas Cedar is distilled to produce the essential oil. Yellow Cedar is used by herbalists for the treatment of bloody cough.  It is used internally and externally as an anti fungal. The dry powder is excellent for Athlete's foot.

CHAMOMILE (Anthemis Nobilis) Parts Used: Flowers 
A gentle sedative, helpful in treating insomnia.  It has been used for Colic and upset stomachs. Chamomile is an antibacterial. Sores, wounds and rashes respond well to external applications. Use the tea as a wash or add the herb to salves and poultices. The oil is rubbed into swollen joints.  Use it in gargles. 

CHAPPARAL (Larria Mexicana) Parts Used: Crushed Fresh Leaves 
Used as a topical application to help heal wounds, sores and insect bites.

CHERRY (Prunus serotina) (P. virginiana).   
Also known as Black Cherry, Wild Cherry or Chokecherry. Chokecherry bark tea is used to clear the throats of singers and public speakers, the powdered berries were once used to improve the appetite. 

CHICKWEED (Stellaria Media) Parts Used: Whole Plant 
Relief for bronchitis, coughs, colds, inflammation. Also used as a laxative.

CINQUEFOIL (Pontentilla reptans) Parts Used: Root, Leaf 
Celts and Native Americans cooked the roots as a vegetable . Applied to sore areas, the fresh plant relieves pain.  A wash reduces skin redness, freckles, and sunburn. The powdered root makes an astringent for mouth sores and treats diarrhea. Taken with honey, it relieves sore throats, coughs, and fever.

CINNAMON (Cinnamomum verum or zeylanicum) Parts Used: Bark 
Oil of Cinnamon is used to kill Lice and Scabies. Dabbed on lightly it is also used to ease the pain of Wasp Stings. It has been used in a tea to aid in Colitis, Tooth and Viral Infections, Diarrhea, Intestinal Infection and Sluggish Digestion. The Oil has been used as a rub for Rheumatism, Warts, Coughs, Colds and Stress.

CLOVE (Syzgium aromaticum) Parts Used: Leaf, Flower buds 
Clove oil  is an antiseptic numbing agent for toothache and indigestion. It is added to cosmetics, perfumes, and cigarettes. There are now Clove based anesthetics. It is used as an insect Repellent for Mosquitoes. As a rub it is used for arthritis and Rheumatism. It has been found to have analgesic and antiseptic properties.

CLUB MOSS (Lycopodium selago or clavatum) Also called Wolf Claw or Stag's Horn Moss.  Parts Used: Spores 
The spores were once used for gastric and urinary disorders, as an antispasmodic sedative and to coat pills. Some Indians Tribes knew the spores could be used in blood-stanching, wound-healing and moisture-absorbing properties and inhaled them for nosebleeds and dusted them on cuts.  The spores also make a dusting powder for skin diseases and diaper rash.  

Warning: Selago can be an active narcotic poison when overused.  It is better to use only the spores, which are non-toxic. 

COMFREY (Symphytum Officinale) Aka: Slippery Root, Knitbone or Blackwort. Parts Used: Root, Leaf 
External application useful in healing skin injuries. Compresses of comfrey root or leaf, speed healing of cuts and rashes. Teas, tinctures and compresses of comfrey roots or leaves are said to speed the healing broken bones. 

COPAL (Bursera odorata) Parts Used: Resin
Resin Copal is gum resin.  When smoldered on charcoal it produces a rich, delicious, piney lemony fragrance.

CORIANDER (Coriandrum sativum) Parts Used: Seed, Leaf 
The seed is a mild sedative, aids digestion, reduces flatulence, and eases migraines. The essential oil, distilled from the seeds, is added to massage oil for facial neuralgia and cramps. The seeds are also used in strengthening to the urinary system. The leaf and seed are infused to treat bladder infections. 

CORNSILK (Stigmata Maydis) Parts Used: Dried corn silk 
It is said that this is useful as a diuretic or a cardiac stimulant. It is also said to be a remedy for kidney and bladder troubles.

CRANBERRY

CYPRESS (Cupressus sempervirens) Parts Used: Leaf, twigs, fruit, bark, wood, resin and essential oil. 
As an ointment or rub made from the oil, cypress has been used to treat wounds, bruises, muscular cramps, poor circulation, rheumatism and bronchitis. In the area of repertory problems the rub has also been used to help reduce coughing, It has also been found to act as an effective insect repellent.

DANDELION ROOT (Taraxacum Officinole) Parts Used: Root
Has been used to fight anemia because it contains iron, calcium, and trace minerals. An ideal laxative, it is also helpful in treating poor circulation, bowel inflammation and stomach disorders.

DESERT WILLOW TREE Parts Used: Flower, Bark
The flowers can be dried for future use to make a very nice aromatic tea . The bark, when dried and powdered makes an excellent athletics foot cure. This is a drought resistant tree and the blooms last from May until Oct. or Nov. depending on your region. Humming birds love the nectar filled flowers and so do bees.

DILL (Anethum graveolens) Parts Used: Flower, Leaf. Stem, Fruit, Seeds
Distilled seed oil is colorless to pale yellow, with a light, fresh, warm spicy scent and flavors drinks, food and infant gripe water for colic. The seeds aid digestion, and their infusion reduces flatulence, hiccups, stomach pains, and insomnia. A seed decoction bath gives nails strengthening.

DONG QUAI Parts Used: Root
Popular Chinese herb used to improve mental acuity and to help relieve symptoms of daily stress and mental fatigue. Especially soothing for women's PMS ailments

DRAGONS BLOOD (Draceana draco spp.) Parts Used: Resin
Dragon's blood is the resin of the Draceana draco species. The common name of this plant is "dragon tree".

DEVIL'S CLAW (Harpagophytum Procumbens) Parts Used: Tuber 
Characteristics: Relief for symptoms of arthritis, rheumatism. Anti-inflammatory effect. 

ECHINACEA Parts Used: Root 
The Root contains a substance called caffeic acid glyoside, which reacts with your body on the cellular level to help facilitate the wound healing process. It is said it helps stimulate glandular organs such as kidneys to function more efficiently. It has been used by herbalists to fight infection, detoxify and stimulate healing. Also used to relieve symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. It is called an immune stimulant by Many Herbal Doctors.  It is still used as a blood purifier today and as an antibiotic.

ELDERBERRY

ELECAMPANE (Inula Helenium) Parts Used: Root
 It is used to treat (in combination with other herbs) many chest ailments such as asthma, bronchitis and minor lung problems. It is made into syrups and throat lozenges or into a tea for these purposes. 

ELEUTHERU SIBERIAN GENSING

ELDER (Sambucus canadensis) Parts Used: The Whole Plant
In Chinese medicine, the leaves, stems, and roots are used to treat fractures and muscle spasms. The flowers are used to treat colds, sore throats, hay fever and arthritis and act as a mild laxative. Elder leaves help coughs, colic, diarrhea, asthma and flu. The leaves are added to salves for skin conditions. 

EPHEDRA

EUCALYPTUS (Eucalyptus spp.) Parts Used: Leaf, Twig, Fruit, Flowers
Eucalyptus oil is antiseptic, expectorant and anti viral. Lemon Eucalyptus: (E. citriodora) Is used for aiding in ending Athlete's Foot and other Fungal Infections. It is used for Cuts, Dandruff, Infectious Skin Conditions (such as Chicken Pox), Laryngitis, Sore Throat, Colds, and Fevers.

EYEBRIGHT (Euphrasia Officinalis)  Parts Used: The Whole Plant 
Used to treat jaundice, loss of memory and vertigo. Topically, has been used to relieve conjunctivitis (pink eye).
